Pineapple - 73-50
Ananas comosus
While I do love growing dragon fruits, there are so many other amazing fruits out there that it would be wrong not to try growing something else as well. Even if you can buy some of this fruit at the local
supermarket, like dragon fruit, they will never come close to optimally ripened homegrown fruit. This is because supermarket fruit is picked early to increase its storage life, at the expense of flavour. Some fruits spoil so easily, or are so
rare, that your best bet is to grow it yourself. Further, the greater the diversity of fruit you grow, the more likely you will succeed in something, and the more likely that you will have fruit at different times of the year, perhaps even
year-round. Thus, I have dedicated this page to some of the other fruit I grow alongside the dragon fruit vines, in the hope I can inspire and help you to do the same.
Note: bananas are classified beyond their scientific name by the
relative contributions of the Musa acuminata (A) and Musa balbisiana (B) genome. The number of letters represents the ploidy level (sets of chromosomes) in a particular banana cultivar.
